History

Discussions began in 1970 regarding the need for a nursing home in Baldwin. The Village of Baldwin Board members and community members worked together toward the common goal of building a nursing home. The first residents were admitted to the Municipal Nursing Home on February 14, 1972. The facility underwent a name change to the Baldwin Care Center in the mid-1980's.

The need for additional senior services increased in the community. The Birchwood Apartments opened in 1984. Initially, the Birchwood Apartments were an independent senior apartment setting. The Birchwood Apartments expanded the total number of apartments to 23, with an addition in 1991. The Birchwood Apartments now offer an assisted living type setting.

An addition and major remodeling project was completed in 1993 at the Baldwin Care Center including the addition of resident dining and living space and office space. The organization is changing to meet the challenges of the needs of the elderly and disabled population by expanding the campus with a new nursing facility that opened in 2013 and the creation of Birch Haven, an assisted living setting, and an expansion of the Birchwood Apartments to include two bedroom apartments.
